New hotels come up in Myagdi as visitors surge

With the number of visitors to Jomsom, Upper Mustang and Dhaulagiri Base Camp rising, entrepreneurs of Myagdi are increasing investment in hospitality sector. New hotels are coming up in Beni Bazaar - the district headquarters of Myagdi - which is also known as the gateway to Upper Mustang and the Dhaulagiri Base Camp.

As many as half a dozen hotels started operation this year alone. Similarly, existing one and half dozen hotels have increased their capacity and added new facilities. At present, there are 42 hotels in Beni Bazaar which lies 82 km away from tourist town of Pokhara.

Hotel Yak, which started operation recently, is the largest hotel in Beni Bazaar. Established with the investment of Rs 10 million, the hotel can accommodation 50 guests at a time.

Dolphin, Shikar, Namaste, Mustang Lete, Mustang Guest House, Sherchan Hotel are some of the big hotels in Beni Bazaar.

Hotels in Myagdi can accommodate around 1,000 guests at a time.

Indra Singh Sherchan, secretary of Myagdi Hotel and Restaurants Entrepreneurs Association, said big hotels are being built in Myagdi. "Existing hotels are also expanding. They are adding rooms, and installing Internet connectivity and air conditioning facility, among others," he added.

Krishna Baruwal, promoter of Shikhar Hotel, said mouth publicity has worked wonders for Myagdi hotels. "We believe in the word of mouth for promotion of our services. Likewise, local hotels also serve dishes made of local agro products," he added.

Not only in district headquarters Beni Bazaar, new hotels have been opened in other areas like Galeshwar, Tatopani, Dana and Ghorepani, among others, according to Baruwal.
