The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is known as one of the remotest treks in Nepal. There are options to trek in the South and North Base Camps which rewards trekkers with the view of the world’s third-highest peak and second highest mountain in Nepal, Kanchenjunga. It is also popularly known as the “Five Treasures of the Great Snow” in Tibetan. i.e., Gold, Silver, Precious Stones, Grain, and Holy Scriptures.

This trek reveals variety of landscapes along with sparking, mica-flecked, Tamur River and many lifetime experiences. At the initial phase, the trek route allows enough time to relax beneath sacred Pipal trees and interact with local villagers. You can also enjoy potent millet brew (tongba). On moving further Rhododendron forests gradually opens for increasingly barren hillsides with the dots of yak and blue sheep. The spectacular peak of Kanchenjunga is visible once you’re at Pang Pema, the base camp. The incredible view of the Himalaya, nearby glaciers, side valleys, Wedge Peak, The Twins, Pyramid Peak and Tent Peak is perfect reward for the effort.

Day 1: Biratnagar - Phidim - Kabeli (1311m, 8 hrs)
Our representative will pick you from hotel and start our spectacular trip with a flight to Biratnagar. Then we will drive in the private vehicles to Kabeli.

Day 2: Kabeli
In spite of rough and bumpy roads travelling through local transport from Kabeli to Taplejung. This drive will offer you a very spectacular scenery to experience, you will view local villagers carrying the fodder in the basket and cattle grazing in the open field.

Day 3: Taplejung - Chirwa (1171m, 8 hrs)
Chirwa is a small town where most people occupation is farming. We will find some humble lodges, local shops and one of the best camping sites there. It will take around 8 hours trek from Taplejung to Chira. The jungle covered mostly with cardamom plants and other vegetation will come in our path. Further the path passes through some small streams, we will also see small garden of oranges. After trekking on undulating path which slightly flattens then we will arrive at Chirwa.

Day 4: Chirwa - Sekathum (1635m, 6 hrs)
It will take around 6 hours for us to pass the bank of the river within a small jungle. On the way we can continuously see cardamom plants and other vegetation. The ascending and descending trail will stretch till the small hanging bridge and once we cross the bridge we will reach our next camp site that is Sekthum(1635 m).

Day 5: Sekathum - Amjilesa (2510m, 6 hrs)
Amjilesa is a small village having few houses and yak herds. The local shops which are popularly known as Bahttis (local bar) and tea shops are equipped with minimum supplies. The trek to Amjilesa is about 6 hours away where we camp for overnight stay. First one and half hours of trek route will mostly be flat which sharply ascends to Amjlesa.

Day 6: Amjilesa - Kyapra (2300m, 7 hrs)
Kyapra which is around seven hours trek far from Amjilesa, The most of the people out there follow Buddhist Culture. It is quite flat trail route gently ascends to the human settlements of kyapra. We will camp there for night.

Day 7: Kyapra - Ghunsa (3468m, 6 hrs)
Gunsa is a town, which is known as the place where large settlements of human being exist. Their lifestyle has clearly been influenced by the lifestyle of Tibet. It will take six hours for us to pass through a dense green forest. Our trail further crosses the terrace fields where villagers grow potatoes, Wheat, Barley, Buckwheat and so on. Most of the local villagers are involved in the import and export business in Tibet. People also go to India for trade during the winter season. We will camp here for the overnight.

Day 8: Acclimatization Day in Ghunsa (3468m)
The rest day is necessary for acclimatization with the environment for excursion in and around Gunsa. Inhabited by Tibetan people Gunsa is rich in Tibetan and Buddhist Culture. We will see carpet weaving industry particularly run in their homes in small scale. Local people are involved in this trade whereas women are mainly involved in carpet weaving profession. On the way, trekkers will come across few checkpoints and also some local shops where we can buy goods to take along to the higher altitudes.

Day 9: Ghunsa - Kambachen (4124m, 7 hrs)
The next spot of our camp is Kambchen. Kambchen is the Tibetan settlement having about dozens of houses. The trek from Gunsa gradually ascent along the bank of Gunsa Khola then the trail crosses back to the Rambuk Kharka on the north side of the river after crossing a small strewn flood plain. Then after we will continue downward to the steepy and unstable screed slope crossing a short waterfall, The passage which falls the river across the side along with loosing footing and lots of football sized rocks tumbling. The trail then will drop to the single locked hut, beyond the slide, at lake. Then, finally, we will continue our trip to Kambchen.

Day 10: Kambachen - Lhonak (4780m, 7 hrs)
Beautiful Mountain views abound in all directions we have our next camp at Lhonak, at 4790m. The seven hours of trail gradually climbs through open rocky fields to Ramtang at 4240m. Ahead we will cross a moraine north-west of the Kanchenjunga Glacier and arriving at, Lhonak, a dry lake bed on an open and sandy plain. The water is scarce here and no houses but feasible to camp among the large boulders to get out of the wind.

Day 11: Lhonak - Pangpema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp) 5152m, Lhonak, 4780m, 4 hrs)
Trek from Lhonak to Pangpema takes about four hours. From Lhonak, the trail will ascend gradually across the plain, and then gets a bit steeper as it follows the moraine. You can drop off the moraine and follow the bottom of the valley to avoid the steeper section. The views are dramatic, but you cannot see Kanchenjunga or Wedge Peak until you are near Peng Pema. Mt.Kanchenjunga and a panorama of other peaks that makes one of the largest mountain masses in the world, tower over the single roofless hut at Pang Pema. It’s oddly stunning as you will delightfully camp for the night down here. After that, we will stay overnight at camp in Pangpema.

Day 12: Lhonak - Ghunsa (3468m, 7 hrs)
We can see some prayer flags hanging over the trees and also the mani walls after we cross Kambachen River. After a tired walk for almost 7 hours, we stay overnight at Ghunsa in a camp.

Day 13: Ghunsa - Sinion La (4583m, 7hrs)
After around 7 hours of trek from Ghunsa to Sinion La. We continue our trek by climbing the ascending route and pass comparatively thick jungle. En route the mani walls and prayer flags over the trees continue to be seen. The mystic mountains seen in the horizon makes the travel joyful and the animals like mountain goats and yaks grazing over the green hills add an aroma to the trip. Finally, we reach at Sinon La and end our trek for the day and settle down for camp.

Day 14: Sinion La - Milgin -la Tserma (3725m, 7 hrs)
The route to Milgin-La is almost like a desert and stony sometimes. The path ascends from Milgin- La along with beautiful experiences of Lapsang La glacier, Mirgin La Glacier and snow-capped mountains. There we see few stone roof houses and some yak huts at Tseram. After that, we camp for overnight.

Day 15: Tserma - Ramche (4360m)
The magnificent scenery after we pass the snout of Talung Glacier, a frozen lake, crystal clear streams and vies of Kokthan, Rathong, and Kabru are the major highlights of the trek to Ramche. We have a relatively short days walk ascending towards the series of ablation valleys. Ramche is our next camp situated on a broad and blat ablation zone.

Day 16: Ramche - Exploration
We pack our lunch and set off early in the morning to experiencing mystic at three summits of Kanchenjunga. As we move along the valley around its sweeping curve, we come across a ridge in the form cirque. The ridge if formed by a vast southern wall of the mountain over 15 km long and at least 7500m high. Along the ridge lie the three main summits jutting out into the sky offering a grand sight. These summits of Kanchenjunga are at 8420m, 8474m and 8586m. Additionally, we have panoramic view of the mountains after we move onward to Oktang [4630m] and descend further crossing the glacier and reach in the area which is the point below Talu. Importantly, the eastern part of Kumbhakarna Glacier flowing from the east face of Jannu (Kumbhakarna is the local name of Jannu) is impressive. And finally, after a whole day travel, we return back to our camp at Ramche.

Day 17: Ramche to Tserma (3725m, 7 hrs)
We return back to Tserma after a pleasant visit to Kanchenjunga South Base Camp.

Day 18: Tserma to Yamphudin (2090m, 9 hrs)
After passing via a dense jungle we begin our trek along the bank of Simbhu Khola river. We can see the effects of landslide in some places on our way. The trail generally ascends to Lamite Bhangyang and starts descending to Yamphudin. After crossing a small river, we arrive at the village of Sherpa’s, Limbu’s, Rai’s and Gurung’s. We find a school and some shops with limited supplies within the corn and rice fields. Here we end our 9 hours trek for the day and camp for overnight stay.

Day 19: Yamphudin to Kunjar (1740m, 8 hrs)
The trail descends halfway through the Omje Khola and ascending trail leads to a small village after passing jungle of cardamom and a child plants. We can find different human settlements and small thatched roof houses and local shops with minimal supplies. After passing the village this village the trek route sharply ascends to Kunjar.

Day 20: Kunjar - Taplejung (2300m, 3 hrs)
We continue climbing along the ridge to Taplejung village at the last day of our trek. We can experience the village life and people. Wandering around adds an understanding the richness and being familiar with the culture. After around 3 hours we arrive at Taplejung.

Day 21: Drive Taplejung - Ilam (2150m, 5 hrs)
In spite the bumpy roads an off-road drive on local transport from ilam to Taplejung. This dive offers spectacular scenery to experience and local villagers carrying the fodder in the basket and cattle grazing in the open field can be seen.

Day 22: Ilam - Biratnagar - Kathmandu (1300m, 45 Minutes)
Today we head to Biratnagar and take a flight to Kathmandu. Our representative will transfer you to the hotel on arrival.
