Shuklaphanta National Park

Shuklaphanta National Park

Shuklaphanta National Park is the smallest national park and wildlife reserve in Nepal. During a four-day safari, you can explore riverbeds, wetlands, and open grasslands that host a large population of swamp deer. This park is one of the best examples of floodplain grassland conservation. As the area remains relatively unexplored and untouched, you can enjoy a peaceful trip with fewer visitors.

Previously a wildlife reserve for 40 years, Shuklaphanta was once a famous hunting ground before being transformed into a national park. It features forests rich in Sal, Khair, Trewia, Sisso, Syzgium, and Mallotus trees. Visitors can enjoy various activities, including jungle safaris, jeep safaris, and sightseeing adventures.

The park is home to diverse wildlife, including wild elephants, tigers, panthers, deer, wild pigs, bears, wild asses, stags, chitals, porcupines, and various reptiles. The conservation of the one-horned rhinoceros and Bengal tiger adds to its ecological significance. Additionally, Shuklaphanta is a haven for birdwatchers and a popular trekking destination.

Culturally rich, the park also offers an opportunity to experience the traditions, lifestyle, and vibrant heritage of the Tharu community.

Day 1: Kathmandu - Dhangadi and drive to Kanchanpur
Drive to the airport to catch a flight to Dhangadhi. Upon landing, embark on a two-hour drive to Shuklaphanta. Upon arrival at Shuklaphanta National Park, take in the breathtaking sight of a glorious sunset. Enjoy an overnight stay at a resort.

Day 2: Full day in Suklaphanta
Early in the morning, embark on a jeep safari at Shuklaphanta National Park, where you will explore its rich flora, fauna, and wildlife. The park is home to 423 bird species and 46 mammal species, 18 of which are protected under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). These include the Bengal tiger, the rare one-horned rhinoceros, Indian leopard, sloth bear, swamp deer, elephant, and hispid hare. Enjoy an overnight stay at the resort.

Day 3: Full day in Suklaphanta
Start your day with a stunning sunrise view from the resort. Afterward, take a walk through the jungle, where you can observe various species of birds, flora, and fauna. Later, visit a Tharu village to experience their traditions and culture up close. In the evening, enjoy a vibrant Tharu cultural dance performance before returning to the resort. Overnight stay at the resort.
